A first experience with horses should be enjoyable and safe. A little preparation makes a big difference.
Ask questions in advance
Contact the organizer and ask what the activity involves, how long it lasts, what supervision is provided, and whether there are age or weight limits.
Dress appropriately
Wear long trousers, sturdy closed footwear with a small heel, and avoid loose scarves or dangling jewelry. For riding, a properly fitted helmet that meets a current safety standard is essential; ask whether one will be provided.
Be honest and listen
Tell the instructor about your experience and any relevant health conditions. Listen carefully to the safety briefing and follow instructions. Nervousness is normal — say so, and the people helping you can adjust.
